Sedation Dentistry

We offer two forms of minimal sedation: Benzodiazepine (Triazolam) and Nitrous Oxide. Your doctor will determine if you are a candidate for sedation and determine the best option of sedation for you.

Who is a candidate for sedation dentistry?
  • Dental or needle phobias.
  • Difficulty getting numb.
  • A bad gag reflex or limited opening.
  • Complex dental problems requiring long appointments.
  • Limited time to complete dental care.
Why choose sedation dentistry?

Sedation dentistry can eliminate fears surrounding dental procedures. Complex or multi-appointment procedures can be reduced to a smaller number of appointments.

Triazolam

Will I be unconscious?

No, you will not be unconscious as you will be able to respond to us if need be. Some people find they become so relaxed that they sleep through the procedure. You will have little or minimal memory of the experience.

How is the sedation administered?

Triazolam is given in the form of a small pill that is dissolved under your tongue. Sedation usually begins within 60 minutes.

How long will I be sedated?

Sedation effects generally last from 2-10 hours.

Will someone need to accompany me to my dental appt?

Someone will need to drive you home from your appointment and stay with you for the remainder of the day.

Nitrous Oxide

Will I be unconscious?

You will be fully conscious throughout the entire procedure. Unlike general anesthesia, nitrous oxide doesn’t cause patients to fall asleep or alter their state of consciousness.

How is the sedation administered?

Nitrous oxide is a gas that is inhaled through a small mask placed over your nose. Most start to feel more relaxed within 5 minutes.

How long will I be sedated?

Sedation effects last only during the duration of the appointment.

Will someone need to accompany me to my dental appt?

Since sedation only lasts during the duration of the appointment, you will be able to drive yourself home or return to work after your appointment.
